Winter Parking Regulations

Blue Snow Emergency Lights at key intersections are activated and flash during declared snow emergencies.
Whenever snow or ice accumulates to a depth of two (2) inches or more or whenever a snow emergency exists due to impending or existing snow or ice conditions no person shall allow, permit, or suffer any vehicle registered in his name to park upon the following ways or parts thereof which are hereby designated as “Emergency Arteries” until the way has been cleared of snow or ice by City snow removal forces to within twelve (12) inches of the curb line.

Parking is banned on both sides of the following roadways:

  • Beacon St, Broadway to Chestnut St
  • Broadway, Revere line to Mystic River
  • Central Ave, Hawthorne St to Eastern Ave
  • City Hall Ave, Broadway to Chestnut St
  • Congress Ave, Pearl St to Broadway
  • Eastern Ave, Louis St to Broadway
  • Everett Ave, Broadway to Everett line
  • Fifth St, Broadway to Arlington St
  • Fourth St, Chestnut St to Pearl St
  • Garfield Ave, R.B. Parkway to Washington Ave
  • Hawthorn St, Central Ave to Bellingham Square
  • Locke St, Webster Ave to Webster Ct
  • Marginal St, Pearl St to Eastern Ave
  • Nichols St, Washington Ave to Everett line
  • Park St, Williams St to Hawthorn St
  • Pearl St, Congress Ave to Boston line
  • Sagamore Ave, Washington Ave to Garfield Ave
  • Second St, Park/Winnisimmet St to Everett line
  • Third St, Broadway to Everett Ave
  • Washington Ave, Broadway to Revere line
  • Webster Ave, R.B. Parkway to Eastern Ave
  • Williams St, Pearl St to Spruce St
As is stated in the regulations, the City may impose parking restrictions in advance of the storm.

It should also be noted that parking restrictions generally stay in effect after snowfall has ceased. This allows the Department to widen streets narrowed by snow during the storm.

Information on Snow Emergencies is carried on Chelsea Community Cable Channel 3. Notification is also forwarded to major media outlets.
