Master Box Tie-In Procedure

The City of Chelsea retains a qualified contractor for the tie in connection of your Master or Auxiliary Box to the Chelsea City Fire Alarm system. The municipal fire alarm system is a hard wired circuit system for the transmission of alarms directly to the municipal fire alarm operations center.

If the building fire alarm system that you are currently installing, maintaining or repairing requires within your approved plans the tie in of your Master or Auxiliary Box to the Chelsea City Fire Alarm system, please note the following procedure:

  1. You or your fire alarm contractor is responsible for the purchase of a master box from Gamewell or an authorized Gamewell dealer - specification of half second timing on the internal wheel - and for the installation of the master box. The Chelsea Fire Department, Fire Prevention Division, will issue you the approved master box location and proper box number. Contact the Fire Prevention Division at 617-466-4620, or by email at: FirePreventionDivision@chelseama.gov.
  2. You or your fire alarm contractor is responsible for scheduling the inspection of the building fire alarm system with the Fire Prevention Division.
  3. Once your system receives approval, Chelsea Emergency Management will be notified by the Fire Prevention Division. Then the City’s contractor will contact you to schedule the tie-in of the building master box to the Chelsea City Fire Alarm system. Only the City-chosen and City- qualified contractor, under the direction of Chelsea Emergency Management, may perform this connection or “tie-in.”
  4. Once the City’s contractor completes the tie-in, an itemized bill based upon the contracted city rates will be provided to you by Chelsea Emergency Management, and payment is remitted to: City of Chelsea.

Once you are tied in to the municipal system, there are no monitoring or maintenance fees for the connection.

IMPORTANT: Please be aware that that you are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the building fire alarm system, including the building master box. The City is only responsible for the municipal fire alarm system.
